Back Up – Supporting everyone affected by Spinal Cord Injury in the UK
Recently, the NHS published new data showing that 4,400 people sustained a spinal cord injury in the UK last year. 105,000 people are living with a spinal cord injury across the UK – not 60,000 as previously thought. Today, 12 people will be told that they are paralysed as a result of a spinal cord injury. This news will be devastating.
By working together, we can transform lives.
“It’s been a very difficult few weeks for me but speaking with someone who knows what you’re talking about makes you feel you’re not going mad, doing a lot of thinking and reflecting after our chat is making me take the baby steps. I need to deal with everything that’s happening at present”.
All the support and services available from Back Up are designed for and delivered by people affected by spinal cord injury. Recently, we launched a new service ‘Back Up Connect’.
Our Back Up Connectors are trained volunteers who all have a spinal cord injury with the following areas of experience:
They can provide a one-off conversation with someone in a similar situation to help answer questions or identify other services which may be useful. Contact happens either over the phone or via online message about any number of topics related to spinal cord injury.
Please share the details of this vital free online service with colleagues or directly with anyone you think might benefit by:
