Grant Making Forum - 2nd September 2021

Our regular Grant Making Forum brings together charities from across the ACO to discuss topical subjects relevant to our sector and to listen to external speakers. All staff from ACO member charities are welcome.

This meeting will be held virtually on Zoom. Please register on Eventbrite for access details.

Speakers at this forum will include:

Anna Bentley - Head of Charis Shop, Housing and Local Government (Charis Grants)
Anna is the go-to person for Charis' partnerships with housing associations and the public sector – in particular supporting them with access to critical services delivered through the Charis Shop. Before joining Charis in 2018, she has had extensive experience in developing commercial relationships in various business sectors.

Anna will be discussing Charis Grants' new Charis Shop and how it can support charities. The Charis Grants Shop is a platform that provides tools to Charities, Housing Associations and Public Bodies to offer support to their customers, residents and communities who are facing challenging or vulnerable circumstances.

Lucy Bannister - Policy Campaigns Manager (Joseph Rowntree Foundation)

Lucy Bannister is Policy Campaigns Manager at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, focusing on their social security policy recommendations. Working collaboratively with decision-makers and organisations in the sector, she leads on JRF’s campaigns for a welfare system that loosens the grip of poverty. Following a varied campaigning background, Lucy previously worked for the Living Wage Foundation as a Programme Manager, persuading and supporting more employers to pay their staff the real Living Wage.

A cut of £20 a week to Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit, this October, will impose the biggest overnight cut to the basic rate of social security since the modern welfare state began. Many organisations from across the charity sector and beyond are joining together to warn the government against going ahead with this cut to the incomes of around 6 million families. Lucy will share the latest updates from the campaign and how you can support.

Discussion: Home visits and safeguarding
We want to open the floor to members to discuss issues relating to re-opening after Covid, including queries raised recently by our members such as how charities are planning to approach home visits, vaccinations for staff/volunteers and safeguarding post-Covid.
