CAB Conference Feedback

ACO had an exhibition stand at the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) Annual Conference in Manchester on 18 and 19 November. We attended alongside a group of member charities to raise awareness of ACO members and the support they can provide with the goal of increasing referrals from Citizens Advice to our members.

Over the course of the two days we spoke to almost 230 individuals from CABs nationwide out of the purported 850 delegates attending.

Many people we spoke to did not realise occupational charities existed or the services they could provide to someone in urgent need of support. This led several people to comment they were happy they stopped by our stand to find out more about us and glad we were at the conference.

We produced leaflets that explained why CAB staff should be referring to grant-giving charities, making sure that everyone we spoke to left with one. This also contained a directory of all ACO members organised by the types of individuals they support as a useful reference guide for CAB staff. We also made pens to give out at the stand, which proved to be very popular, with some staff and managers taking several back for their colleagues and volunteers in the office.

We also showed delegates how easy it was to search for a grant using Turn2us’ online grant search tool, and provided demos using tablets at the event.

All in all, we found the experience very positive. We want to ask our members to help us evaluate the success of this endeavour. If you do notice an increase in CAB referrals to your charity, please get in touch with to let us know.
