Presentation 1

What difference does your grant make?

Shehnaaz Latif, Lead Consultant at NCVO Charities Evaluation Services, led an interactive session to provide guidance on impact assessments, theory of change development and other considerations for grant makers wanting to demonstrate the difference made through their funding. This session gave attendees the opportunity to share their impact stories, and consider proportionate ways to gather information from grantees, using examples and practical work to help explore what might work best in your setting.

Shehnaaz has over 15 years’ experience in training and consultancy work, specialising in topics such as theory of change, the self-evaluation process and outcome monitoring frameworks. She has a particular interest and experience in working with funders and volunteer-led organisations. Shehnaaz manages the content and delivery of NCVO’s outcome and impact training, including their training contracts with funders such as the BBC, Children in Need and Trust for London. She aids charities and funders in building their capability for self-evaluation, and carries out independent evaluations.

One Day of Action - ACO-led PR Project Update

ACO appointed PR Agency Definition to develop a national profile-raising campaign to raise awareness of the ACO and its member organisations, and to share the work all our members do to people across the country.

Peter Davenport, Strategic Consultant at Definition PR Agency, shares their idea of “One Day of Action”, gathering information and case studies from our members to show the good work they do and help they provide to people in need in just one day working in their organisation. The campaign will target both national media and digital channels to raise awareness.

Award-winning PR agency Definition has years of experience working within the charity and third sector, including working with many of our Member Organisations, such as the Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society and the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society.

The 'Living Without' Campaign - Helping people without basic home appliances

The Living Without campaign aims to draw attention to the high number of people living without basic household appliances and the impact that it is having on their lives. Research that Turn2 undertook found low levels of awareness that grants were available to help people purchase household appliances, with 81% of those surveyed being unaware of them.

In this video, Dawn Jackson, Head of Grants Services Turn2us, reveals the research behind the campaign and raises awareness of the grants available to help people struggling to purchase basic household goods.

Dawn has over 35 years’ experience within the Charitable and Housing sector, and five years as a grant funder. Dawn has worked at Turn2us for over 10 years, managing housing related funding programmes for innovative housing solutions, and prior to joining Turn2us Dawn worked as a regional manager across seven local authority areas managing home improvement agencies.
